My name is Cayden Marks, I have been an Intern Accountant for almost a week at Titan Co., an ink company that provides clean and refillable options for inks for 20 years. Even though I work as an intern, I wouldn’t mind working here as a full-time worker. Friendly workers, great atmosphere, and even great pay from what I have heard.

However, there was a weird instance that was concerning. A few days into the internship, my boss asked me what my favorite shape was. I was confused by the question and was unable to answer.

“Just let me know before your internship is done.” My boss says, leaving me to my work.

When getting up to stretch my legs, I look over to the cubicle to my right. They were drawing the same shape all around. I thought that maybe they were bored or something, but looking over at the left side, they were doing the same. I walked over to the boss’s room to ask about my favorite shape and why that was important.

“Just an icebreaker to ask you Cayden, I ask this question to all my workers, even the new ones.” he says, holding a flat red foam triangle from his desk.

“Then why did you want to know before my internship?” I ask, even more confused than before. I was looking at his hand gently caressing the triangle.

“I just want to know before you leave” He puts down the shape. “I love shapes, that’s all.”

I nodded and walked off, I thought about maybe I should ask one of them about it. I walk over to the cubicle on the left of my desk and ask.

“Hey, could I-” She slightly jumps on her chair, looking at me. She has fear in her eyes, bags under her eyes and slight red around her blue eyes. I glance at her drawing, it’s a bunch of circles, but one of them has a slant in the left corner sticking out. I finally said something to her, “can I ask you something?”

“What?” her answer was weak, shaky, and wobbly like she has been drawing these circles for a whole day.

“What is the meaning of drawing circles?” I ask, pointing at her drawing.

“I’m sorry, it’s for full staff only, it’s better not to tell.” She smiles, once again weak, almost like she’s about to cry. “Is there anything else?”

“Um, no. Sorry about the scare.”

“Just don’t do it again.” She says, then I hear her murmur under her breath like poison seeping under my skin. “Triangles.” I shook it off and went back to my cubicle and worked on financial reports.

When it was time to leave, I decided to stay to talk to my boss. I found him talking to a worker. The boss saw me and gestured to me in the conversation.

“Tob, this is Cayden, one of the interns I was talking about.” my boss says, he smiles at me. “Someone notified me that you interrupted Liz, is that true?”

“I didn’t do it on purpose, sir. But, yes, I did do that.”

“You are quite an irregular worker Cayden, you know that?” my boss says.

“Excuse me?” I say, but someone grabs my arms and feels a needle being pressed on my neck. Then it becomes black.

When I woke up, I was chained to the wall, levitating.

“Welcome shapeshifters to our wonderful gathering.” The sound of my boss says with cheers of joy shaking the walls. “Let’s begin with our congratulations on Jackson, Tyler, and Peter being able to draw their favorite shape, beautiful artworks from the three.” Showing a rounded octagon, acute triangle, and a heptagon.

The three people got up on the stage and waved to the workers below.

“Let’s begin the process for these folks to shape up.” he chuckles, clapping to show a machine. When they did, everybody was cheering, chanting the name: “Shaper”.

Jackson goes into the machine, turning to the crowd, smiling.

“Shape my body!” He says, then crushing, breaking, squeezing his body into a rounded octagon.

Then Tyler walks inside, wanting to shape his arm to an acute triangle, and Peter wanting his head to be a heptagon.

After the ceremony, my boss walked up to me, asking my favorite shape, but I couldn't answer.

“I think I now know what it is: irregular heptagon.” the boss gestures to the workers to uncuff me and bring me closer to the machine. I tried to get out, but I couldn’t feel my legs. They toss me in and my boss says “Shape my body!”
